Ellen E. Rukholm, RN, PhD, FCAHS

Dr. Rukholm has over 20 years of teaching, research and nursing leadership experience and is currently the Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing. Formerly she was Director of the School of Nursing, Director of the Laurentian site of the Ontario Research Training Centre in Health Services and Policy (funded by CIHR/CHSRF) and Interim Director Doctor Program in Rural and Northern Health, Laurentian University.
She has a B.Sc.N. from Laurentian, an M.Sc.N. from the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh.
She has experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods, program evaluation and instrument development. Her research has focused on health services and health policy in rural northern communities, knowledge translation/utilization and cardiovascular health and illness. More recently her work has expanded to include evaluation of 'online learning' distance education, inter-professional education focussing on accreditation and aboriginal cultural safety.
Dr. Rukholm is a founding member of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. She is a recipient of CIHR, CHRSF, Health Canada and Heart and Stroke of Canada grants. She has over 100 peer reviewed presentations and publications. She is a member and former Editor of Canadian Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing Editorial Board and a Past President of the Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses.
