Bruce Minore, PhD, is Research Director at the Lakehead site of the Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research (CRaNHR). Reflecting the centre's mandate, Bruce's research activities are applied in nature; he and his colleagues work with community partners on projects that have a direct policy/program focus. The work divides into two broad themes. First, are studies that look at the delivery of care, either for specific conditions - cancer, mental health and stroke - or to specific segments of the population, such as First Nations children and youth. Second, are human resource studies on the recruitment and retention of nurses, doctors and other health professionals, and the appropriate use of paraprofessional workers. Papers he and his research partners have written about integrating paraprofessionals into interdisciplinary primary care teams in First Nations and rural communities are widely cited. Bruce's research team has obtained funding from a number of national and provincial sources, including the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Health Canada, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Ontario Stroke System, Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Nursing Research Fund and the Ontario Mental Health Foundation, among others.
Bruce is a faculty member in the Department of Sociology and has an appointment to the Human Sciences Division of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. As well, he is the Lakehead site director for the Ontario Training Centre for Health Services and Policy Research.
