Mae Katt, R.N.(E.C.), M.Ed.
Temagami First Nation

Nurse Practitioner, Thunder Bay

Mae Katt, RN(EC), MEd., a member of the Temagami First Nation, is a Nurse Practitioner in Thunder Bay. Her nursing experience of 30 years is diverse, having spent many years working for remote and isolated First Nations in the far north. Her background includes experience in primary care, diabetes, addictions, community health, mental health and psychiatric nursing. She has also held senior management positions: Regional Director of the Health Canada department known as First Nations and Inuit Health; Health Director for Nishnawbe Aski Nation, covering 49 First Nations across the northern regions of Ontario; and, Team Leader of Anishnawbe Mushkiki Community Health Centre clinic. Mae developing a framework for Diabetes Complications based on the Medicine Wheel Teachings.

A long-time research affiliate of the CRaNHR, Mae is a member of a research team (with B. Minore, M. Boone and P. Kinch) that has studied community-based worker preparation as well as youth suicide and mental health issues in northern First Nation communities. She was also involved in research on access to breast screening for women in remote northern First Nations, for which she was honoured by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Ontario Chapter.
