John joined the Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research as a Senior Researcher in 1998. He is involved in a number of studies on telehealth, health services access, health service use and health human resources. John has published on telehealth policy, guidelines and impact.
John is on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Society for Telehealth. He has been a member of the CST Research Committee since 1999, serving as chair for two years. In 2006, John received the inaugural CST President's Recognition Award for outstanding and sustained voluntary service to the CST. He has twice received awards for presentations delivered at the annual CST conferences. John is also a member of the Canadian Rural Health Research Society.
John serves/served on expert committees including: Telemedicine Networks of Ontario Clinical Working Group and Evaluation Working Group; Ontario Telemedicine Network's Telehomecare Evaluation Advisory Committee and British Columbia's Teletriage Expert Advisory Panel. Since 2005, he has served as a research methods consultant to the VON's Research Ethics Committee. John served as an external reviewer on two Technology Reports released by the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH): Real-Time (Synchronous) Telehealth and Asynchronous Telehealth.
