Hoi F. Cheu, Ph.D.
Department of English

Dr. Cheu teaches in the Department of English and coordinates the Film Studies Program at Laurentian University. He specializes in applied media aesthetics and film theory.

Dr. Cheu's interest in health issues began with his research on therapy and literature. Between 1988 and 1993, he studied bibliotherapy and complex systems narrative therapy, and was the president of the Association for Bibliotherapy and Applied Literature from 1998 to 2001.

In 2004, Dr. Cheu completed his book, Sexing the Screen: Postfeminist Metafiction in Women's Cinema (in press, UBC Press). As well, he has produced a 52-minute documentary film, Pathways to Care, about children's mental health care in rural Ontario. This documentary is based on a 2-year study jointly conducted by researchers at the Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research and the Hospital for Sick Children.

Dr. Cheu's work at CRaNHR focuses on applying theories and techniques of media studies to enhancing the knowledge transfer activities of the research centre.
